AUTUMN PHOTOSHOOT

Recently I found my hidden passion for portrait photography. This is something I was always scared of. Because how much more fun and challenge is it to capture some dynamic sport moment, be at the right place at the right moment, or even to have time to arrange a food photo shoot or take your time with a beautiful landcape shot. With portrait you have people. You have expectations. You need to direct, observe, communicate and capture at the same time. Sounds scary, right? But let me tell you, it just takes practice, and in my experience, it’s all about doing it regardless of impostor syndrome.

I started shooting friends, family, got into communicating, posing, and found an exciting new challenge in capturing people, emotions and personalities. And most importantly, managing to make people comfortable in front of the camera. I realised my power and ability to tell a story. Also how much fun it is to work with someone with a shared goal! Because yes, photogtraphy can be a one man job sometimes, but here, you brainstorm, laugh, and create together.

This autumn shoot in Salzburg was a perfect example of that. Soft sunlight, warm colours, and a relaxed atmosphere made the session feel more like a walk outside than a “photoshoot.” We worked with natural light, simple compositions, and gentle posing. Nothing forced, just enough guidance to let personality come through.

One thing I’ve learned is that the best portraits don’t come from stiff poses, but from comfort. When someone feels at ease, their expressions change, their body language softens, and the photos start to feel real. Autumn is especially beautiful for this: the colours, calm light, and nature doing half the work for us.

If you’ve ever thought about booking a portrait session but felt unsure, I get you. But think of it less as posing for the camera and more as taking time for yourself, outdoors, in good light, with space to just be :)
